OVERVIEW

Selous Game Reserve is a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its exceptional biodiversity and untouched natural beauty. It offers fantastic opportunities for wildlife viewing, including guided safaris, walking safaris, boat safaris along the Rufiji River, and birdwatching excursions.

Itinerary

DAY 1: DAR ES SALAAM/ZANZIBAR-SELOUS GAME RESERVE

You will start your safari in Zanzibar or Dar es Salaam Airport whereby you have to arrive 60 minutes before your departure time 0800hrs. On Arrival in Selous Game Reserve Mtemere Airstrip at 0915hrs or 0945hrs, you will be met by the driver guide who will transfer you to the lodge for check-in. At around 16h00 in the evening, depart for an adventurous and romantic sunset boat safari along the great Rufiji River to spotting hippos, crocodiles and birds, and enjoying the spectacular sundown.

DAY 2: SELOUS GAME RESERVE

After early breakfast, depart for a full day game drive in the Selous Game Reserve, exploring the game in the surrounding areas. Animals, including elephants, giraffes, lions, buffalos, zebras and even the rare African wild dogs, are common. Picnic lunch in the mid-day, later on, return to the camp or lodge for dinner and overnight.

DAY 3: SELOUS GAME RESERVE-DAR ES SALAAM/ZANZIBAR

Early morning walking safari usually start at 6-6.30am after first-morning tea or coffee, accompanied by an armed ranger, and it will take around 2-3 hours long. Walking safari is a fantastic way to experience more about the Selous Bushes. After enjoying your breakfast in the morning, check-out followed by transfer to Mtemere airstrip for the departure on a scheduled flight at 1030hrs or 1250hrs to Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar.

FAQ

The dry season of July through October is the best time of year for the greatest overall concentrations of game in this park when wildlife congregates around the lakes. However, do not underestimate this park at any other time outside the rainy season of April & May as game viewing is very good in various areas throughout the year. Nyerere is quite safe to visit. Crime against visitors is rare in Tanzania and the little crime that does occur mostly happens in major urban centers, similar to the rest of the world. Camps and Lodges in Nyerere National Park have night guards who patrol the property and keep the vicinity safe. During the day, your Safari Driver-Guides would typically guide you on how to approach the wildlife in the safest way, either on your game drive or your walking safari.
